‘Snow Leopard’ Ang Rita Sherpa, who climbed Mt Everest 10 times without bottled oxygen, passes away

Mountaineer Ang Rita Sherpa, who climbed Mt Everest 10 times without bottled oxygen and who is known by the epithet of Snow Leopard, died on Monday morning at his residence in Jorpati. He was 72.
Sherpa, a native of Thamo village in Solukhumbu, last stood atop the world’s tallest mountain in 1996, the tenth time without supplemental oxygen. He first summited the mountain in 1983.
The Guinness World Records in 2017 recognized him as the only person on the planet to have climbed Everest 10 times without supplemental oxygen.
The Guinness World Record has also recognized him as the first man to climb Everest in winter without supplementary oxygen in December 1987. Sherpa lately was suffering from brain and liver problems.
