Ganden to Samey Trek


Ganden is situated 45 km East of Lhasa on the Highway that follows the south bank of Kyi Chu to Medro Gongkar. This is one of the most beautiful sites in central Tibet, which is considered as an abode of Champa, the future Buddha. The monastery perched on the ridge called Gokpo Ri, the site was chosen by Tsong Lhapa (1357-1419) for his first meditation where the monastery built later. This is one of the great monasteries out of six, built by Gelukpa sect. This itinerary linking two of the most important monasteries in Central Tibet crosses the Yatro Drak range of mountains that divide the Tsangpo basin from the Lhasa Valley. The trek provides a superb means of access to Tibet’s first monastery an institution founded in the 8th Century.

Ganden Monastery, 45 km east of Lhasa, was first built in 1409, the 7 year during the reign of Emperor Yong Le of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). At least 10 buildings have been restored. Barley fields sprawl across the valley flor, which looks splendid, doted with small villages. It takes 4 days to walk from the Ganden to Samye This is one of the finest soft trek in central Tibet. You can experience walking in the altitude, experience Tibetan Culture in the eastern Tibet; experience difference visiting holy land.



Day 01 : Arrive at Gongar Airport
Day 02/03 : In Lhasa
Day 04 : Lhasa to Ganden Monastery at 4500 Meters, O/n Camp
Day 05 : Trek to Hebu 4700 Mtrs, 3 hrs trek/n Camp.
Day 06 : Trek to South base Camp of Jookar La Pass
Day 07 : Trek to Jookar La Valley junction
Day 08 : Trek to Ninggong
Day 09 : Trek – Samey- Drive to Tsedang
Day 10 : Transfer to Airport


Day 01 : Arrive at Gongar Airport receive by guide,drive to Lhasa,Check in to Hotel.

Day 02/03 : In Lhasa. Guided tour of Potala,the Winter Palace of Dalai Lama Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Market.Drepung, biggest Monastic University of Tibet.Guided tour of Norbulinka, the Summer Palace & Sera Monastery.

Day 04 : Lhasa to Ganden Monastery at 4500 Meters, O/n Camp
After B/F, we drive 45 Kms to Ganden Monastery, visit monastery yours guide arrange yaks and acclimatize.

Day 05 : Trek to Hebu 4700 Mtrs, 3 hrs trek/n Camp.
It takes 3 hrs to get Hebu Villages, slowly trail ascend, we cross the river camp at Nomads near Hebu Village, rest of time at acclimatization.

Day 06 : Trek to South base Camp of Jookar La Pass at 4600 mtrs,6-7hrs O/n Camp. Today is the most hardest day of this trek, trail steeply ascend to the pass at 5200 M Jookar La Pass. It takes 4 hrs to the top and descend to our camp takes two hrs

Day 07 : Trek to Jookar La Valley junction,4400 Mtrs, 6hrs O/N Camp.
Again we cross the Sukhe La Pass 5000mtrs, it is easier than Jookar La, after pass valley narrows in to short gorge, then widen to open grassy meadow, crosses through nomads settlement & tents,

Day 08 : Trek to Ninggong at 4250 mtrs, 6-7hrs trek, O/n Camp.
We trek along the grassy medow, easy trail and en route we visit Yemalung Padmasambhava Meditation cave,

Day 09 : Trek – Samey- Drive to Tsedang 3500 Mtrs,2-3 hrs trek,O/n Hotel Tsedang. Descend easy two hrs to , visit monastery during Lunch, drive 35 kms to Tsedang, trek ends, Sherpa crew return home.

Day 10 : Transfer to Airport,you can fly to Kathmandu,Bangkok,Singapore or other city of China.
